The forest is waiting….
This is what happens, when things are not quite a fairy tale. You go into the woods to find your story. If you are brave, if you are fortunate, you walk out of them to find your life. ~ Kat Howard, Roses and Rot.

Lori writes adult fantasy fiction with a mythical forest atmosphere. Her shorter work has been published both traditionally and independently. Her novelette, “Love Lies Bleeding,” was adapted into a performance by Corporeal Arts Inc and performed in various venues, including Dixon Place in NYC. She was a finalist for Speculative Literature Foundation’s Older Writers Grant in 2024 and is a member of SFWA. She currently has a novel out on submission.
The fantasist, whether he uses the ancient archetypes of myth and legend or the younger ones of science and technology, may be talking as seriously as any sociologist — and a good deal more directly — about human life as it is lived, and as it might be lived, and as it ought to be lived. For after all, as great scientists have said and as all children know, it is above all by the imagination that we achieve perception, and compassion, and hope. ~ Ursula K. LeGuin, National Book Award Acceptance Speech for The Farthest Shore
As an experienced educator and writer, I work with students to shape their writing into well-crafted, personalized, and compelling essays — work that makes them stand out in the highly competitive world of college admissions.
Let’s erase the stress and make the essay writing experience a positive and successful one!

Things must happen when it is time for them to happen. Quests may not simply be abandoned; prophecies may not be left to rot like unpicked fruit; unicorns may go unrescued for a long time, but not forever. ~ Peter S. Beagle, The Last Unicorn

Lori J. Torone is a fantasy writer and a Senior Lecturer of English and Communication Studies. She loves medieval literature and Renaissance Faires, and she believes that all magic has its price, dearie, and true love can break any curse. She splits her time between New York City and Ulster County, with her two children and one very small, yet very bossy, dog. Downstate she helps her college students find their writing voices and learn how to use children’s literature in their future classrooms. Upstate she lurks in independent bookstores, drinks lots of different types of tea, and bikes on the Rail Trail. She writes everywhere.
